Tim Mander, State Member for Everton has secured funding towards the delivery of a full-size playing surface at Mitchelton Football Club.
“This was a pre-election commitment that I made and when the LNP was unsuccessful in getting government, I wrote to the Minister and requested that he match the LNP commitment and he has.” Mr Mander said
“Mitchelton Football Club is a great local club with hundreds of junior players and an artificial pitch will mean that footy can continue in any weather”
Brian Cook, Club President, said he was delighted at the announcement. A nondescript looking letter sent by the State Government contained a very welcome surprise, a $500,000 grant towards a new full-sized synthetic playing surface.
“The letter was the final piece of the puzzle in a project that has been years in the making,” he said
“This will be an amazing boost for the club, we will be able to play and train up to 75 hours a week on this new field compared with only 15 hours on our grass surfaces. It will also bring in much needed income that can then be used to improve our other facilities”
Mitchie F.C. has a long history of success. Their men’s and boys’ teams have recently qualified for the Football Queensland Premier League, while the girls’ and women’s teams have qualified for the National Premier League.
