A Spec-tacular Sight

Do you have eyeglasses lying around that you no longer have any use for? Have you thought about donating them to the Lions ‘Recycle For Sight’ program?
The Lions Club Australia collects used eyeglasses that are passed onto local Eyeglass Recycling Centres (LERC) for refurbishment. At the centre, they are sorted, graded and boxed for distribution to Optical Missions around the World. Simple refractive errors in sight can be easily corrected, improving people’s vision in low to middle income countries that lack basic eye care services.
Over the 26 years that the Australian program has operated, the program has delivered over 7 million pairs of refurbished quality spectacles to men, women and children in need.
Currently, our local Lions branch, the Golden Valley Keperra (GVK) Lions have a collection point set up at Willmore Kindergarten, 14 Iruka Street, Ferny Hills that has been inundated with donations from the community.
‘Paul from the GVK Lions has already been around to empty our collection box as it was full to the brim with donations. The generousity of our community is phenomenal,’ said Linda Fox, Educator at Willmore Kindergarden.
If you would like to set up a collection point at your business or organisation, or have the GVK Lions come and collect your eyeglasses, please contact Paul Ryan at the GVK Lions (contact details are below.)
Our Lions Clubs around the world have the same core areas of focus ensuring our Community Service work is not diminished.
Volunteers are always needed to keep their programs going. If you would like to join the GVK Lions please contact Paul Ryan on cottontrees@bigpond.com or 0409 688 675.
