A Year In Review For Arana Netball

As the calendar year comes to an end, Arana Netball Club looks back on the passing year, which saw most competitive teams have a successful year in terms of making it to finals, while the young non-competitive teams showed promise and enthusiasm for the years ahead.  While next year’s Downey Park winter fixtures don’t start until late April, Arana Netball trials will be during February, after the Club sign-on at the Leslie Patrick Park courts from 4pm to 6pm on Sunday 3rd February, 2019.

This club sign-on afternoon is a chance for players for next year to meet Committee, ask questions, and importantly to try and buy uniform items.  Registration itself is once again on- line, so from early in the new year, registration and payment can be done at www.arananetballclub.com.au.  This site and the Arana Netball Club Inc. Facebook page will keep players and families informed with ongoing dates, times, and events for the club.  To sign on to play netball in 2019, players need to be turning at least 8, that is, players born 2011 and earlier are eligible to play.

The Queensland Government offers Get Started vouchers to make it easier for all children to take part in sport.  Families of prospective players for next year should check eligibility in advance, and register in advance if this is the first time applying.  The next round of vouchers, giving $150.00 towards fees, will open early in 2019.  See www.qld.gov.au/recreation/sports/funding/getinthegame/getstarted.

During the off-season many players take the chance to keep in touch with netball friends and to improve skills by playing more social night season, while several have been taking part in representative trials for associations’ teams.  Pleasingly too, over thirty players participated in the free Monday night sessions through November, where young players, both new to netball or with little experience, took part in skill development sessions.  It is hoped that these young players continue their interest in netball by playing with Arana Netball in next year’s teams.

Meetings are held monthly for Arana Netball Club, on the third Monday of the month, at the Arana Sports meeting room of the Hills District Community Centre, commencing at 7.30pm.  All interested in the running and future of Arana Netball are welcome to attend, with the next meeting on 17th December.  Specific queries about the club can be sent to arananetballclub@gmail.com .

In reviewing the year, Arana Netball Club is once again very appreciative of help and support given to the club from the local community, including the donation of prizes when needed for events.  Especially, the club thanks the following for their ongoing support – the Hills Echo, Arana Leagues Club, Moreton Bay Regional Council, Arana Sports and fellow member clubs.  Without the support of these, and of the families and friends of club players, Arana Netball and its volunteers, including Committee, would not be able to operate the club.  Arana Netball extends best wishes for a happy and safe Christmas and festive season to all
