Arana Netball Club News

August was a busy month for Arana Netball Club, with finals early in the month. Five of Arana’s ten competitive grade teams progressed to finals – Arana 1, Opens Div.2; Arana 3, Opens Div.7; Arana 4, Intermediate 4; Arana 5, Intermediate 6; and Arana 7, 13Yrs Div.4. All had done well to progress this far. Losing their semi-finals, and being eliminated from further finals, were Arana 1, Arana 3, and Arana 7. Arana 4 had a second chance to progress to the Grand Final by playing in the Preliminary Final, but unfortunately lost on the day.

This meant that only Arana 5 progressed to play on Grand Final day, having won their semi-final after finishing second on the points table. Grand Final day saw these young ladies, coached by Mikayla Ridderbeks and Ashleigh Crawford, play a great game, defeating All Hallows 9 to win the premiership.

August also saw a movie night held, as an event catering especially for the younger members of the club.

At the Annual General Meeting later in August several changes occurred in who will hold various positions, with the changeover after the September club meeting, scheduled for the 18th September. Monthly meetings are held in the Arana Sports meeting room at the Hills District Community Centre, commencing at 7.30pm. All club members and supporters are encouraged to attend these meetings.

To round off the 2017 season for teams, Trophy Presentation has just been held on Friday 8th September, upstairs at the Arana Leagues Club. This was another chance to celebrate the 40 years anniversary of the foundation of Arana Netball Club, and past members were also invited to attend, with social activities continuing after presentations.
