BCC Budget Deciphered

An update from Ferny Grove & Upper Kedron Residents Association (FGUK RA)

Baffled by budgets?

Brisbane City Council have released their 2021-22 budget. It’s a lengthy read with over 1000 line- items bundled into a word document, making it difficult to get visibility of how it applies to the suburb you live in. So, through the wonders of excel spreadsheets and pivot tables, we’ve done some of the hard work for you.

We found that as part of The Gap Ward’s $10.3m budget, Ferny Grove, Upper Kedron and Keperra (the suburbs our Association represents) have been allocated just over $3m in funding across the following categories:

In addition, each suburb within The Gap Ward (Ashgrove, Enoggera Reservoir, Ferny Grove, Keperra, The Gap and Upper Kedron) may benefit from a portion of the general allocations available to each Ward.  This includes the Lord Mayor Community Fund ($35,000) and Suburban Enhancements ($567,000).

Owner-occupied rates will increase by 2.5% however pensioners, not-for-profit and JobSeekers may qualify for additional rebates. Full budget documents are available on BCC’s website.  We’ll also share more detailed breakdowns at our upcoming General Meeting on Sunday 8 August.

Preparing for next Council Budget

At our next General Meeting we’ll provide more detailed updates on local issues and seek your input on what you’d like to see prioritised in the 2022-23 Council budget.  Please join us on Sunday 8 August, 2pm at the Upper Kedron Community Hall to share your ideas on the future shape of our suburbs. Themes for the discussion will include connectivity (how we and our wildlife get around) and amenity (how we play, socialise and access community services).
