The garden is looking absolutely amazing at the moment. We have had some beautiful rain to water our plants, the weather is lovely and cool and the plants are thriving.
Our snowpeas are starting to produce slowly. Our rocket is great to put in our salads. The silverbeet and shallots are ready to pick and we have had some delicious pumpkins to share with our members. We have also started to pickle some beetroot.
The Pak Choy and Lettuce have finished but we have planted some more lettuce which will be ready in a month or so. Our Cauliflowers, Cabbages, Broccoli, Carrots and Potatoes all are doing very well but it will be a few more weeks before we can start picking.
We are all enjoying the beautiful weather at this time of the year and continue to have a good roll-up on a Sunday afternoon. Not only do we enjoy the gardening aspect of the Community Garden but the social interaction is an added bonus.
At the moment our herb garden has flowering basil which is attracting the bees, society garlic (which has beautiful lavender flowers which are edible), tarragon, mother of herbs and garlic chives.
The HOG community is a friendly group who offer people in the Hills District the opportunity to grow vegetables using organic principles. Age is no barrier so feel free to come along one Sunday afternoon to have a chat and a look around our beautiful garden.
Our members meet on a Sunday afternoon from 3pm to 5pm. As well, they also attend the garden through the week to water and do general maintenance.
You will find us at 416 Bunya Road, Bunya next to the Off Leash Dog Park. Membership Fees per year are $15 for adults, $25 for family, and $5 for Juniors.
