The Care Bag Project – Can you help?

More often than not, when a child is placed in a foster home they go with no more than the clothes on their back. There is no teddy to cuddle to provide comfort or familiar pyjamas to snuggle into, in what can be an incredibly traumatic time in their lives.

The Sweet Dreams and Good night wishes charity organisation aims to provide a ‘Care Bag’ to each child when they are placed into foster care. A ‘Care Bag’ is a backpack style bag that contains essential items to help them adjust to their new surroundings. Having their own backpack of items can help reduce anxiety and bring comfort to the child in such hard circumstances.

Currently, one of our local schools, Patricks Road State School, is running a drive for items that can be included in the backpacks. The school is reaching out to the local community for donations of items for bags.

Each bag contains items for boys and girls aged between 2 and 16 years of age and may include:- a set of PJ’s, a set of clothes, a hair brush and hair bands (if for a girl), a colouring book and/or pencils, socks, underwear and/or a soft toy. Other items may be included such as a hat, drink bottle, ball, small blanket etc. However, the following items are not accepted – shoes, food, razors, aerosol cans, shampoo/body wash/soap, bubbles, slime or anything which might leak.

It is also important that all items are new. Bags and items can be dropped off at Patricks Road State School’s office or Exquisite Fitness Studio, 15/1147 South Pine Road, Arana Hills until the 30th of August.

If you can help in any way, please get onboard with this project. Whether it be one or two items that are donated or a whole bag, a little goes a long way.
