A Message from Peter

2019 is coming to an end and as this will be my last column for the year, I’d like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

I hope you are able to enjoy a nice break over the holiday period and spend some time with your family, friends and other loved ones.

I wish you all the best for a healthy, happy and prosperous year in 2020 and I’m looking forward to catching up with you all very soon.  Peter

Congratulations to the Winners of my Christmas Card Competition

Each year I run a Christmas Card Competition with local primary schools and invite students in Prep through to Year 3 to draw an entry.

The students are given a theme and must draw their own interpretation. We received hundreds of entries this year and the theme was ‘Helping Those Less Fortunate This Christmas’.

Thank you to all the students and schools who participated in this year’s competition, I hope that next year’s event is just as good!

Congratulations to the winners; Kathryn the Prep winner from Kurwongbah SS, Sienna the Year 1 winner from Eatons Hil SS, Jonah the Year 2 winner from Strathpine SS, and Lochie the Year 3 winner from Dayboro SS. Their entries are below.

More Opportunities to Commemorate Local Heroes

I am pleased to let you know the Saluting their Service (STS) Commemorative Grants Program has received a funding boost and been expanded.

An extra $10 million over the next four years has been allocated by the Federal Government to honour the service and sacrifice of those who have served our country.

There has been a slight revision in the guidelines and the STS grants will focus on conflicts post the First World War. Digital projects will also be considered for the first time.

It would be fantastic to see some more projects honouring our veterans from Samford Valley and across Dickson, so if you have a project in mind, I encourage you to get involved and apply. Please visit www.communitygrants.gov.au for more information.
