A Message from Peter
We are now on the road to recovery from COVID-19. At 13 June, we will begin stage two of the Prime Minister’s Roadmap to Recovery here in Queensland; religious gatherings of up to twenty people will be allowed, gyms will be re-opening and restaurants serving up to twenty patrons, as well as other restrictions being eased. Please visit Australia.gov.au for the latest information.
As restrictions are eased, the Government is providing extra funding for job creating projects. In May, it was announced the Moreton Bay Region will receive an additional $5 million funding for local road projects as part of the $1.8 billion Local Road and Community Infrastructure Program. This program is giving local communities across the country a much needed boost.
18 volunteer organisations in Dickson have also received a boost thanks to funding grants through the Federal Government’s Volunteer Grants Program. Grants between $1,000 and $5,000 will enable organisations to support their volunteers to purchase small equipment and pay fuel, transport and training costs. This will help many local organisations continue their important work in our community.
As life slowly returns to normal, please let me know if there is anything I can do to be of assistance. I would love to hear from you.
Local Veterans Employment Award Winner – East Coast Apprenticeships
Congratulations to Alan Sparks and the entire team at East Coast Apprenticeships in Strathpine on winning the Veterans Employment Award.
The Defence Trade Program at East Coast Apprenticeships has helped many local veterans re-train and learn a new trade, and it is fantastic to see them recognised for their efforts.
The extensive range of skills, abilities, behaviours and attributes veterans gain makes them an asset to any workplace, and it’s great to see organisations in our local area recognising this and promoting it as part of their workplace culture.
The Veterans’ Employment Awards celebrate the achievements and valuable skills of our veterans and businesses that have gone above and beyond to assist them.
There were a record 129 nominations for the 2020 Awards, the highest in the Awards’ three year history. Finalists for the 2020 Awards were selected from across the country, from large, medium and small organisations in a range of industries and professions.
Further information on the awards and winners, including the full announcement video, can be found on the Prime Minister’s Veterans’ Employment Program website www.veteransemployment.gov.au.
Supporting Local Businesses
It has been a hard time for many small business owners. The Government has released a number of support packages to help, including the Job Keeper Package which gives eligible businesses $1500 per fortnight per employee.
There are also additional supports available from the federal government and state government for eligible businesses. Please visit www.business.gov.au, www.business.qld.gov.au, or www.Australia.gov.au for the latest information.
