Young Diggers Launch
Recently I had the pleasure of officially opening the new Bunker for Young Diggers in Strathpine.
Young Diggers was founded by John Jarratt and Peter Walters who initially wanted to help support the troops based at Enoggera by connecting them to available services and their vision and dedication has seen Young Diggers grow into a nationwide organisation supporting thousands of veterans.
Young Diggers is a veteran’s support organisation with a unique twist – as well as providing welfare support services and other assistance; they help veterans train Assistance Dogs.
Assistance Dogs have been known to help prevent suicides, improve mental health and wellbeing and assist veterans adjusting back to normal life after returning from deployment.
Many of the veterans I met at the launch spoke of the importance of their dogs and the positive difference their assistance dog had made.
I know the new bunker in Strathpine will help Young Diggers support many more veterans and their families’ right across our community.

I am interviewing locals who have done amazing things for our community with my ‘Heroes of Dickson’ video series.

Income Tax Relief
Many of you will have already lodged your tax return for the 2018-19 financial year and the good news is that you could receive up to $1080 back as a result of our tax cuts package.
As a key election commitment, we passed our tax relief package on the very first sitting week of the new Parliament with the support of the crossbench. Up to 10 million Australians will receive tax relief under our plan.
Labor, unfortunately did not support our tax cuts package. The average worker on $60,000 per year would be $15,000 worse off over the next decade under Labor.
Our tax cuts will stimulate growth and help the economy and will mean you have more money back in your pocket after you submit your tax return this year.

Save the Date – Seniors Expo 2019
One of my initiatives after I was first elected in 2001 was to host a Dickson Seniors Expo. There was a lack of information for seniors in our community and I wanted to provide opportunities for seniors in the local community to access information, activities and services available. The Expo was such a success, we decided to continue it and this year will be the 16th Annual Dickson Seniors Expo.
It is always a fun event and provides seniors with an opportunity to meet local organisations and business who work with seniors, there will also be plenty of entertainment, guest speakers and much more.
The Expo will be held at the Strathpine Community Centre off Mecklem Street. Entry is free.
Organisations and businesses interested in holding a stall at the Expo can contact my office on 3205 9977 for booking information. DATE: Monday 2 September and Tuesday 3 September
