The Lions Club of Brisbane Bunya are at it again, doing what they do best – supporting the community.
Fundraising for community services is at the heart of Lions International and efforts from the Lions Club of Brisbane Bunya over the last 12 months has seen the continued roll out of funds into the community where it’s needed most.
Lions Club of Brisbane Bunya President, Ms Donna Hedges and Lion Brian Avery made an impromptu visit to staff at Picabeen Community Centre in Mitchelton recently. In their hands was a cheque for $1,000 in support of locals in need.
Ms Hedges said the visit was a regular day as a Lion and shared: ‘The Manager, Jillian was so surprised, I think it made her day!’
‘The relationship between the two organisations is long-standing and is cemented by a common goal of providing opportunities to support the community and empowering their volunteers to serve their communities.
‘It is an honour to ensure that funds raised in the local community go directly to programs that serve the local community,’ Ms Hedges said.
Picabeen Community Centre Manager Ms Jillian Warren said of the donation: ‘With increased need at the centre, the unexpected donation has come at a perfect time.
‘Unfortunately, many people are finding it harder and harder to make ends meet and your donation will go a long way in supporting local people through some of these difficult times.
‘It will be used to support two of the centre’s most utilised programs – the Community BBQ and the Food Security Program,’ Ms Warren said.
‘Not only has there been increased need for these services of late but there has been increased costs with inflation and general price increases – so the donation couldn’t have come at a better time. A great big thank you to the Lions club!’
