Embracing Technology during the Tough Times

The Mitchelton Older Women’s Network on one of their regular ‘Zoom’ catch-ups

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, The Mitchelton Older Women’s Network Qld have been unable to meet for their regular coffee mornings, a Saturday lunch and monthly meetings.

However, this group of women don’t just stand by idly waiting for things to change. The ladies in this organisation have embraced technology and, in spite of the health crisis, they are still a very active group. They now hold regular Zoom meetings that have become the new norm, with gatherings of up to 10 members joining in the shared conversations. Other members are contacting each other by other forms of video links and even using the phone.

Members have said that meeting up on Zoom and other links is helping them get past the vacuum that the restrictions have caused. It‘s also helping them to maintain a healthy physical and mental attitude.

The Older Women’s Network Qld is an organisation for women from 60 upwards who pride themselves on being active in their community, maintaining independence and enjoying mixing with other like-minded women.

The aim of the organisation is to share information that is relevant and necessary in order to continue a healthy and positive approach to growing older. The activities of the Mitchelton branch are geared to this philosophy.

If you want to know more about Mitchelton OWNQ, contact Judith on 0431 159 921. When meetings recommence, they will be held at the Moonah Park Retirement Village Community Centre, 6 Blaker Road, Mitchelton on the 4th Wednesday of the month from 10am to 12pm. Cost is $5.
