I’m always moved when I attend the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Day at Gaythorne RSL Sub-branch. Every year in August, Australians pause to remember the service and sacrifice of those who fought in the Vietnam War. This year marks the 53rd anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan, and it was a privilege to share this special day with some of our local service men and women.
More than 60,000 Australian servicemen and women were deployed to Vietnam Between 1962 and 1975, with 521 killed in service. Many of those who survived returned home with both physical and emotional scars. Unfortunately, on their return, our Vietnam veterans did not receive the acknowledgement and recognition they deserved. As Australians, it’s important that we take the time to reflect and remember those who gave so much for our nation.
‘Evergreens’ visit to Parliament House
It was great to host the ‘Evergreens’ from St Williams Catholic Church, Keperra for their recent visit to Qld Parliament house.
Throughout the year ,this sprightly group attends special outings. It was a great opportunity to take them on a tour and enjoy a chat over a cup of tea and cake.
If you’re part of a local group and would like to tour parliament house, please contact my office for more information.
