Everton News – December 2019

A monthly update from Tim Mander MP, your State Member for Everton

Tim Mander MP

I am really proud of the hardworking volunteers across my electorate, and it’s important to acknowledge their incredible work in the many schools, clubs, sporting clubs and community organisations.

Every year, I hold the Everton Volunteer Awards to say thank you and celebrate the outstanding work of our volunteers.

This year, Gladys Foley from The Nest Community was the recipient of ‘Volunteer of the Year Award 2019’.  Gladys has worked as a volunteer for over 60 years and started volunteering at The Nest in 2016. Every week Gladys coordinates over 60 volunteers and donates haberdashery resources to over 38 other communities. Gladys is an inspirational senior leader and mentor and is well deserving of this award.

The winners across the other four categories included:

Community Volunteer of the Year 2019 – Ian Anderson from Everton Park Scout Group

Sports Volunteer of the Year 2019 – Nick Elsey from Everton District Sporting Club and Everton Wolves

School Volunteer of the Year 2019 – Chrissie Faulkner from Northside Christian College

Young Volunteer of the Year 2019 – Joint Award: Jacob Mount from Mitchelton Day Club and Ryan Doolan from Everton District Sporting Club and Everton Wolves

I look forward to hosting this event again next year and want to thank all of those who were nominated for their outstanding work in the community.

Merry Christmas and thank you

I want to say thank you for letting me serve as your local State Member for Everton.

While I’ll continue working hard for you and my electorate, I wanted to acknowledge some of the achievements this year: secured funding for Stage 1 of South Pine/Stafford Rds Intersection; $1.8m road upgrade at Halle St, Everton Park; $1m safety upgrade at the Eatons Crossing Rd/Eden Drive Intersection; $10m to Everton Park SHS for facility upgrades; $500k for McDowall SS to construct a sports centre, and $500k to Mitchelton Football Club for an artificial turf pitch.

We have worked together to make things happen and I am always available to listen and hear about the issues that matter to you.

With this, from my family to yours, may you have a joyous Christmas and a healthy, happy new year.
