Excellent Outlook for Garden Competitions 50th Year

The President of the organizing committee for the Hills District and Bunya Garden Competition, Sue Quirk, is excited about this year’s event reaching the major milestone of 50 years continuous running of the event. Sue says that the Committee is more advanced than usual in preparations for this year’s event.

The rainfall over the last month has been very encouraging to all keen gardeners, and augers well for increased entries in this year’s competition, after some difficult seasonal conditions in 2016 and 2017, including last year’s dry months leading up to the judging time. The rain outlook is continuing well into Autumn, consistent with the Bureau of Meteorology prediction for a mild El Nina pattern in 2018.

We all talk about the weather in our day to day social interaction, but to serious gardeners, just like farmers in our rural regions, weather and rain is central to successful growing and gardening, so it is as if Mother Nature has smiled on the Competition, just when needed. The Committee is now predicting this welcome rainfall will result in the Competition being inundated with entries for the 50th Year.
