Ferny Grove State High School student and Junior League Baseball player, Emile Nel, has helped steer the Queensland Dolphins to a win of 11/8 over the New Zealand Super City Spartans in the grand final of the Gold Coast Summer Classic Baseball Tournament which was hosted at Sir Bruce Small Park, Surfers Paradise from the 4th – 6th January 2019.
Emile (aged 13) played a prominent role in the six-match series win scoring a first-round home run as part of a series contribution of ten runs for a notable batting average of .750.
Emile will follow this weekend’s success with a tour to the United States, in July, as part of the Queensland Dolphins six- game contribution to the Disney ESPN International Salute to Baseball in Kissimmee Florida. The Dolphins will play another 4 games before returning to Australia.
The July tour takes Emile one-step closer to his dream of playing US College Baseball on the way to representing the Brisbane Bandits and ultimately playing professionally in the Major League Baseball League.
Emile is a member of the Windsor Royals Club (Newmarket) and he currently plays for the Junior League Bandits. He is grateful for all the support and encouragement he has received to date as the Baseball community is like one big family.
