Honeycombes Property Group, a private Queensland developer, has been appointed by the Queensland Government to redevelop the current bitumen commuter carpark at the Ferny Grove Train Station into a vibrant mixed use development.
It is envisaged the site will be transformed into a mixed use precinct. It is proposed to include a childcare, medical facilities, residential apartments, speciality retail, food and beverage, cinema complex, full line supermarket and a stand alone fast food outlet. All of the above is subject to Brisbane City Council approval.
During the design phase of the Transit Orientated Development, the developers will ensure that commuters’ requirements will align with the mix of retail, entertainment and apartments creating a vibrant place for the community to meet and live.
The State Government has obtained funding for an extra 250 commuter car spaces due to growing need of the patrons in the region, increasing the park and ride facility under the State’s control to in excess of 1100 carparks, with the majority of these car spaces to be undercover.
A new connection to Samford Road will be constructed to assist with traffic circulation that will be handed back to the State upon completion.
During construction, estimated at $95 million, 629 full-time equivalent jobs will be created, with approximately a further 431 full-time equivalent jobs once the development is operational. The direct injection of approximately $71million into the local economy is sure to create a positive flow effect to the surrounding region. The total economic output of this project exceeds $230M based on an analysis completed by AEC Group, an independent economic analyst.
