Festival Fever has hit The Hills

One look at the expansive 2019 Hills Festival program of events and activities shows why it is the Hills District’s most favourite time of year. Spanning the entire month of May, Hills Festival is back with seven wonderful events guaranteed to fill the community with excitement.

Moreton Bay Region Industry & Tourism (MBRIT) in partnership with the Moreton Bay Regional Council and local community stakeholders, have captured the vibrancy and diversity of the Hills District in a month-long program of events and family-friendly entertainment.

MBRIT CEO Shane Newcombe is looking forward to celebrating all that makes this community so wonderful with something to suit everyone.

“Movie in the Park will kick of the month of festivities, screening the family friendly fantasy film ‘Sherlock Gnomes’ at Leslie Patrick Park on Saturday, 4 May from 4pm.”

“Be sure to pack a picnic blanket and fold up chairs to ensure you’re comfortable while you enjoy the screening.”

Treat your mum to something special this Mother’s Day and enjoy a Picnic in the Park from 1:30pm on Sunday 12 May with live music and delicious food trucks.

The Annual Car Boot Sale and Chilling in the Hills Markets will both make their debut in the Hills Festival program this year.

The inaugural Annual Car Boot Sale, presented by McDowall-Bunya Scout Group will be held on Sunday, 19 May from 8am at James Drysdale Reserve. Rummage for treasure in a unique market setting, sifting through clothes, vibrant vintage items, books and more! While you are there, grab some beaky before sitting down to enjoy some live music.

For anyone wanting to make a little extra cash, why not apply for a car boot stall? Hoarding no longer needed treasures or clothes or maybe you make a mean sponge cake, this is the event for you!

Community members are encouraged to apply for a car boot stall via the Hills Festival website.

If that’s not enough excitement for you, head down to James Drysdale Reserve on Friday 31 May from 5pm to experience Chilling in the Hills Markets. Gather your family and friends and enjoy the twilight atmosphere.

Hills Chamber Breakfast is also included in this year’s Hills Festival line up. Meet for breakfast at Arana Leagues Club and share business knowledge as well as develop networks and business relationships on Tuesday, 28 May from 6:45am.

“Festival family-favourite Hills Carnivale will of course be back towards the end of the month on Saturday, 25 May at George Wilmore Park from noon,” Mr Newcombe said.

The Hills Carnivale program is jam packed with budget friendly entertainment.

Visitors will not be disappointed with $2 rides, two stages of entertainment, Kids Zone, free workshops, delicious food trucks and best of all a huge fireworks finale set to light up the sky.

Looking for new knowledge? Well you’re in luck, this May Arana Hills Library will be stacked with free events and workshops.

From tips and tricks, cooking classes, parenting advice, author meet and greets to a kids carnivale, there’s something for everyone at the Arana Hills Library during May.

Division 10 Councillor Matt Constance said he’d been working with MBRIT and local community groups since 2018 on plans to make this the biggest event yet.

“It’s the annual showcase of why locals love living in The Hills district and it’s turned into a real money spinner for businesses in the area with a month of fun activities.”

“People travel from all over the Moreton Bay Region and Brisbane to attend.”

Be sure to keep an eye out for the festival mini-mag being distributed throughout the community and check the website and social media platforms regularly for updates.
