Over the last two years we have been forced to change the way we live. In many cases it has changed us. Covid hasn’t been good to anyone and Mental Health has taken its toll, more so than ever.
Men’s mental health has always been a quiet issue in society, with many men’s mental health issues going unrecognised for a long time. We want to make sure we can openly help our mates, family and each other.
There is a growing recognition that mental health concerns are in fact a serious issue and the culture of dismissal is a dangerous approach. However, many of the most common indicators that there’s a problem still go unnoticed by many men.
This year, the Ferny Grove Falcons Masters AFL will be supporting MensLine Australia, a charity dedicated to helping with men’s mental health. Their Masters team registration fees will include a donation to MensLine Australia and they will proudly wear their logo on the footy jumpers.
In the last two years, the Ferny Grove Masters have been a small number of men that have gathered together on Wednesday nights to train and enjoy footy, as well as dinner some nights. This has created a team that will look out for each other. It’s now time to grow this team and help bring together a great culture of support for men to enjoy playing and training AFL, and to bring awareness and help to MensLine Australia.
If you would like to get involved with the Masters team eitheras a player or in a support role, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. Furthermore, for more details about MensLine Australia, visit mensline.org.au. Additionally, if you need support, call their counselling team on 1300 78 99 78.
The team welcome all male players (aged over 35) of all abilities. Never kicked a footy? No worries, they will help you! The Masters train once a week on a Wednesday night from 6pm – 7pm at Falcon Park, Top of Tramway Street, Ferny Grove. They also play fortnightly during the season.
