Fossicking Fun!

In the coming year, the Mitchelton and Districts Gem Club hopes to organise several fossicking trips for collecting various materials which members can cut and polish in the club’s workshop.

Some of these trips are overnight to such places as Chinchilla, Murgon and Warwick to maximise the time for fossicking.

There are only a few single day trips which the club organises, these are to Redcliffe, Kenilworth and the Tweed Valley. Trips to the Tweed Valley are dependent on the Tweed River system as floods can turn over the gravels where chalcedony and agates are found. Any pieces of material lying on the gravels are soon collected by keen rockhounds.

To participate in these trips people need to be a club member as the accident insurance policy the club holds only covers members.

The Mitchelton and Districts Gem Club has its rooms located at 46 Ferneydell Street, Ashgrove and is open every Thursday from 9am to noon for cutting and polishing rocks and from 12 noon to 3pm for silverwork.  It is also open on Saturday from 1pm to 4pm. The club caters for rock enthusiasts in the North Western area of Brisbane.

Visitors and new members are most welcome and if you would like more information about the club please phone John on 3351 1038 or Lloyd on 3351 2093.
