Helping Our Girls Find Support

Amy Patten, a local resident who strives to better the lives of disenfranchised and isolated women, has launched an online bra-fitting business with Intimo.

Throughout their life, women change bra sizes. They grow through developing breast tissue and childbearing, they shrink after breastfeeding, and they may change in shape with age—all requiring different types of support. Many women overlook these changes and continue to purchase the same, outgrown, uncomfortable bra size for years. As well, many women have one or more bras in their drawer that they haven’t reached for in years. Think maternity bras—now too big—or teenager bras—now too tight, or sports bras that were rarely used. With most major department stores and speciality shops no longer providing fitting services, women struggle to obtain the guidance they deserve. This is where Amy’s fitting services come in handy.

Ever heard of a ‘bra party’, where ladies get together under one roof to sip wine and try on new bra products? Attending these sort of events was the traditional avenue to accessing Intimo’s products, however this didn’t typically suit everyone. Over the past year, with pressure from fluctuating Covid-19 restrictions raining down on the business, Intimo developed virtual fittings. These sessions ensure that women everywhere—include our remote ladies—have access to the feel-good fit of comfortable, high quality lingerie underwear that they deserve.

“I am just really excited to offer a virtual service to women to have an easy, professional bra fitting experience,” Amy explains. ‘At a virtual fitting I talk through how to take the measurements (that I would do in person) to ensure we find the perfect fit and styles for your shape.  I am taking virtual bookings that use zoom as the platform – you are not required to undress—just wear a thin-fitted top over your best fitting bra. If you are not up with Zoom, you can contact me, and we will arrange an alternative fitting style.’

Through her roles as a teacher, a disabilities coach, a health promoter, and a mother of three girls, Amy has become well aware of the significant number of disadvantaged women and girls in her community and beyond. It is her dream to be able to better their lives in any way she can. As she started up her business in bra-fitting, it was her community she had in mind; she now had a means by which she could lift up the disadvantaged. Additionally, as part of this passion project, Amy set out to join Support the Girls, which is a non-for-profit organisation that is run by women, for women. She will collect pre-loved but good condition bras to donate and refit into the community.

Amy reveals, ‘I look forward to donating my time to Support the Girls to fit donated bras on women and girls in rural outreach events later in the year.’

Now, to make a donation throughout ALL of March, donators must ensure that their bras are clean (no marks or stains), aren’t stretched, and have functional clips and straps.

Anyone and everyone can drop their bras to Lee at Style my Way, Ferny Hills, Millies Albany Creek or at the Sweat Like a Girl being held on the 26th of March.

Alternatively, you can contact Fitted by Amy for collection arrangements via or 0478 161 092.

Come share the pre-love with your community!
