Brisbane’s newest community high school, Humanitas High School, will be moving into their new home at 93 Brunswick St, Fortitude Valley in the New Year.
Started by local Keperra and Ferny Hills teachers and parents, this democratic community high school is run by families and students who wish to have more input into their education. Humanitas offers individualised, project-based learning and community connections in an environment that prioritises joy, kindness and self-directed learning.
‘Humanitas will be a fantastic addition to the educational landscape of Brisbane, offering families and students who are looking for a democratic school option a rich environment for learning,’ says one of the directors of Humanitas, Keperra teacher Mathilda Element. ‘We are excited to open our doors later this year for a smaller cohort of mid-year Year 7 students, as well as a full cohort of Year 7s and 8s in 2022.’
Humanitas will be holding multiple parent information sessions in 2021 at both Fortitude Valley and Arana Hills locations. For more information, please see the school’s website www.humanitashighschool.org.au
