Knitting for those in need – Donations required!

Every Thursday afternoon members of the Purls Knitting Group at Mitchelton gather to make items for those in great need.

The group is affiliated to Knitting for Brisbane’s Needy which was started in 2006 by Karen and Peter Croke from the Glasshouse Mountains. The duo see that the handmade blankets, toys and garments reach those in most need particularly in the Queensland area but also interstate and overseas.

In order for this busy group to continue making blankets, toys and garments, supplies are always required. The group accepts donations of wool, yarn, fabric, patterns and needles. Ready-made knitting and sewing from the public are also gratefully accepted, however, second hand items cannot be accepted. Pick up of your excess yarn can be arranged so why not use this opportunity to clear out a few cupboards?! Please leave any requests and details at the Mitchelton Library so someone from the group can get back to you as soon as possible.

Normally regular weekly meetings are at Mitchelton Library on Thursdays from 1pm – 3pm. However, with number restrictions currently at the library the group meet at the Gaythorne RSL on Thursdays from 2.30pm – 4.30pm.

Donations can be brought to the meeting on Thursday but the RSL cannot accept donations at any other times. New members are always made very welcome so pop along and for afternoon tea or just call in to have a chat.

If you can assist in any way, donations may be left at the Mitchelton Library. Please leave your contact details too so the group can thank you for your generosity.
