On the 13th of October the Oceania Aikido open championships were held on the Gold Coast with entrants from across Australia and New Zealand. John Edwards of Ferny Hills competed in the Masters Randori and successfully took out the silver medal. Mr Edwards trains at Shodokan Aikido Brisbane Honbu Dojo in Coorparoo under Allan Higgs Sensei. Their club took out 17 medals across the event from under 12’s to Master’s competing in Kata and Randori events.
‘Although I have trained in martial arts since I was 12 and am now 46 I still enjoy training and assisting teach the children’s class,’ said Mr. Edwards.
This championship was the national competition for team selection for the World Sport Aikido Federation international competition in San Diego in July 2019.
