The popular Mitchie Makers Markets will no longer be held on the second Friday of every month at the Mitchelton Football Club.
Market enthusiasts will be stunned by the unexpected news. Market Convenor Steve York had no notice that the Markets would not continue at the same venue in 2018. An email from the Mitchelton Football Club was received by Mr York on 22nd January detailing the closure of the market. No further explanation was provided.
This sad news was much unanticipated by the markets organisers and community members alike. The markets had been running for two years and have contined to grow from strength to strength over this time.
The market is also known for giving back to the community through its support of the Mitchelton Football Club and providing a opportunity for small local businesses to promote and sell their products.
‘Some really good memories over that time and met some wonderful people. The growth of the markets exceeded everyone’s expectations and it seemed set to continue until we reached our current setback. Thanks for your help in supporting the locally handmade movement… In the end I feel that everything which could have been done had been done to keep the markets running in their current format,’ Mr York said.
The last market was held on the 22nd of December 2018.
Mr York is currently seeking a new venue for the Makers Market but is unable to guarantee the Market will continue.
