How much do you know about our mangroves, and how they affect Moreton Bay?
Brisbane Northside Australian Conservation Foundation is hosting a free zoom event, which will be presented by mangrove expert, Jock Mackenzie, from earthwatch. Jock will expand your knowledge about why Moreton Bay, is an internationally listed Ramsar Wetland area of global significance. He has been establishing Mangrove Citizen Science activities along the Queensland coast for 15 years, usually involving participation by school students.
MANGROVES – FAST FACTS
- Mangroves play a huge part in climate change, sequestering more carbon than land trees.
- They are important habitat for fish, other sea creatures, and migratory shorebirds
- They protect our shorelines from erosion
- Moreton Bay mangroves are a vital part of our Ramsar listed wetland area of international importance
- Mangroves around the world are at risk
