Netball Finals to finish the season.

With August came the end of netball fixtures and the start of finals.  Saturday 24thAugust saw the first of Downey Park finals, with teams finishing in the top 4 in 8-team competitions playing in semi-finals. Teams in 6-team competition played one extra game on 24thAugust.  All grades had preliminary finals on 31stAugust, with Grand Final day scheduled for 7thSeptember.

The following Arana Netball teams proceeded to play in the semi-finals – Arana 1, Div.6; Arana 4, Intermediate 6; Arana 5, Cadet 6; Arana 6, Cadet 8; Arana 7, 13Yrs Div.6; Arana 8, 12Yrs Div. 3;  and Arana 9, 12Yrs Div.7.  Arana 10 had an extra fixture game before the Preliminary Finals for their grade.

The following teams then proceeded past the semi-final week – Arana 1, Arana 4, Arana 5, Arana 7, Arana 8, Arana 9, and Arana 10.  Good luck to all teams as the finals continue, and well done on the efforts of all Arana Netball players and coaches.

Earlier in August, Arana hosted a visit by some of the Queensland Firebirds players at the courts in Leslie Patrick Park.  This was well received by Arana players, and should have served as an inspiring and informative lead-up to their finals games. August also saw the Annual General Meeting for Arana Netball, with handover of positions becoming effective as of the September meeting, on Monday 16thSeptember.  Previous position holders will continue to assist those new to roles as needed. The club welcomes David Kerr, Kelly Hawes, Dale Robertson, and Ash Kerr to committee roles, and thanks goes to Meredith, Allison, and Jordan as they step down from committee roles at this time.

Looking ahead, Presentation Night to round off the winter season is planned for Saturday evening, 14th September, at Gaythorne Bowls Club.  Club members will be advised final details closer to this event.  For young players from 7 years, Arana is holding a free introduction to netball clinic at the Arana Hills courts from 14thOctober to 12thNovember.  Those interested should email

Many current players will keep up their skills in summer by playing in a more social night competition hosted by Q.C.N.A. at the Downey Park courts.  With monthly club meetings continuing during summer, parents and senior players are encouraged to come to meetings to learn more about Arana Netball Club and to contribute to ideas and decisions.  Meetings are held in the Hills District Community Centre meeting rooms (Dawson Parade, Arana Hills,) on the third Monday each month, commencing at 7.30pm.
