New Probus Club Forms In Response To Demand

Newly formed club is voted into existence

Forming social connections during retirement is important, as it provides a sense of friendship and support for retirees and that’s what Probus is about.

The newest Probus Club in Queensland is Arana Hills & District Probus Club and was formed on 16th June, 2022 at Arana Leagues Club. The new club was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Mitchelton.

The Foundation meeting was attended by almost eighty people, including members of the sponsoring Rotary Club. Fifty-seven people signed up to be members on the day, including the President and President Elect of the sponsoring Rotary Club.

Meeting organiser, Barbara Tobin, commented, ‘Most attendees indicated that they became aware of the meeting through the advertisements and media release in the Echo Community Newspapers.’

A further twelve members have been added during the first fortnight after the meeting and highlights the need for Probus in the area to assist in reducing isolation and loneliness felt by many seniors in the community.

Probus is a not-for-profit and also a non-fundraising organisation dedicated to helping retirees and semi-retirees meet new friends, enjoy an active retirement lifestyle and have fun.

Club meetings will be held on the third Thursday of each month from 10am to noon at the Arana Hills Leagues Club and interested retirees and semi-retirees are welcome to attend.
