Keperra Picnic Ground Drainage Upgrade

Keperra Picnic Ground, located on the corner of Samford and Upper Kedron Roads, Ferny Grove was converted to a local green space in 1982.  Over this time, a variety of sporting fields and community facility buildings have been added to the site.  As a result of this infrastructure, the area has experienced high surface water drainage flows.

This drainage upgrade will assist by restoring the main parkland drainage network, improve surface water runoff, water pollution and erosion. This work will also improve site functionality, security and safety and the works will be undertaken in two stages. Stage 1 will commence in April 2021 and be completed by July 2021, weather and construction conditions permitted. For the duration of the work, the construction zones will be fenced off and closed to the public. The work areas will be closed for a further three months following construction completion to allow for the establishment of new turf.

This $1.4million project is part of Council’s Restoration for Recreation program. For more information on this project please go to www.brisbane.qld.gov.au or contact me at my ward office to discuss any aspect of this work.

A Celebration of Artworks – Brisbane City Council Art-force

Artforce is a Brisbane City Council community art project that enables local artists to paint their original works on traffic signal boxes around Brisbane suburbs. Over 1,200 boxes have been painted across Brisbane, celebrating this project.  Artforce was initiative in 1999, and this year we celebrate artwork painted on signal boxes in 2019-2020.

The project provides residents of all ages and artistic backgrounds an opportunity to design and paint an artwork on a traffic signal box. This year I am very pleased and congratulate a local Ferny Grove resident and her two daughters who were awarded the Lord Mayor’s Award for their painting on the Energex signal box on Upper Kedron Road and Cemetery Road, Ferny Grove.  Titled ‘The Burbs’ the artwork explores the issues of social isolation and how we preserve nature alongside urbanization, congratulations!

You can view all the entries via www.brisbane.qld.gov.au search ‘Artforce’ to find out how you can participate in this program.
