Now the Container Refund Scheme is up and running local community groups are encouraged to consider registering with Containers For Change to start raising funds through the donations of others.
Interstate not-for-profit groups such as the Scouts in South Australia have shown for many years that container refund schemes can provide a steady source of income for the good works they do.
To assist community groups the Palaszczuk Government has launched the Container Refund Small Scale Infrastructure Grants Program to create projects to help not-for-profit groups access the fundraising opportunities afforded by the scheme.
Grants of up to $10,000 are on offer to build infrastructure and buy equipment for the collection and security of containers at donations. Grant funding is to be used for infrastructure and materials which will directly assist in the initial establishment of a container refund or donation point for the community group. This could include:
• Fencing, signage, CCTV;
• Infrastructure for the collection, counting, sorting or storage
of returned containers;
• Equipment required to commence operation of a refund point (PPE, balers etc.);
• Equipment required to transport collected containers from container refund points to a processor.
