Mitchelton State High School has implemented a new Literacy program developed by their dedicated Literacy Coaches to expand student vocabulary and improve writing skills.
During literacy lessons, students have the opportunity to participate in targeted and data-informed activities in the newly built library.
In addition, the Literacy Coaches at Mitchelton SHS actively support staff and students in embedding the Write That Essay (WTE) program, as well as supporting essential learning experiences that improve overall literacy. WTE provides writing programs to schools to assist teachers and students with improving writing outcomes. WTE was developed to improve key writing skills students require to excel in tertiary education.
The Literacy Coaches at Mitchie High provide guidance, expertise and professional development to staff to expand practices which have ultimately improved student outcomes. This program is encouraging and providing students with an exciting and engaging approach to reading and writing tasks, evidently shown by A positive and enthusiastic staff and student uptake.
Through the use of Write That Essay and the support from Literacy Coaches, the results at Mitchelton State High School have improved to an average of 90% A-C across Year 7-10.
