Student team crowned Brisbane North champions

Just one of the teams from the Brisbane North Opti-minds Challenge

Over the first seven weeks of Term 3, two teams of keen and enthusiastic students from Everton Park State High School prepared for this year’s Brisbane North Opti-minds Challenge.

These students took part in the Year 7-9 Division of this annual competition. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, this year, teams had to prepare video submissions for assessment by a panel of judges at the University of Queensland on Sunday 30 August 2020.

After the judging of all of the entries from around the state, Everton Park State High School were crowned the Brisbane North Champions for 2020 in the Year 7-9 Category!

The team of Kaylee S, Ruby R, Charlotte F, Lauren F, Eden G & Tayley Hadley won the Year 7-9 Division for the Social Science Challenge! This is an amazing achievement and their facilitator, Mr Tait is over the moon for the students (as are we all).

The other team, comprising of Connor L, Camden S, Iris H, David D, Stirling A & Finley M were runners up, finishing in 2nd place! Another outstanding effort. They are to be commended for their dedication and efforts over the last two months, and can all hold their heads up high.

Mr Tait’s team’s video submission will now be entered into a state final (along with all regional winners) to be judged shortly. Fingers crossed they go well at the next level!
