Summer has hit with a vengeance with high temperatures and little rain. However, the rain we received in mid-December was very welcome and did wonders for the Hills Organic Garden (HOG).
The cucumbers at HOG have just started producing along with zucchinis, however the tomatoes are really struggling. The beans, sweet potatoes and rosellas are doing well and hopefully a good crop will reward the HOG community with some delicious rosella jam, along with fresh beans and sweet potatoes.
The HOG community is a friendly group who offer people in the Hills District the opportunity to grow vegetables using organic principles. Age is no barrier so feel free to come along one Sunday afternoon to have a chat and a look around their beautiful garden.
Members meet on a Sunday afternoon during the summer months from 3.30 p.m. to 5p.m. Some members also attend the garden through the week to water and do general maintenance.
The garden can be found at 416 Bunya Road, Bunya next to the Off Leash Dog Park. Membership fees per year are $15 for adults, $25 for family and $5 for juniors.
