THE FERNY REPORT: Feb/Mar 21

by Mark Furner M.P. - State Member for Ferny Grove

TOD Update

There was fantastic news over the Christmas/New Year period as the final hurdle to the Ferny Grove Transit Oriented Development (TOD) commencing construction has now been cleared.

Brisbane City Council (BCC), the State Assessment and Referral Agency (SARA) and the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) have all signed off on the $120 million project.

Following the final approvals received by the BCC in late 2020, the TOD received the all-clear to proceed to construction in early 2021.

Honeycombes Property Group will shortly announce the successful tender to build the project and will announce the build date.

The TOD will provide a massive injection of jobs into our local community with 700 full-time-equivalent jobs created during the build and a further 700 full-time-equivalent ongoing jobs generated by the complex once completed.

Honeycombes have now signed most of the anchor tenants to the project and have opened expressions of interest in the residential options on site.

Negotiations and planning for the TOD have taken many years and have required a collaborative approach across all levels of government. Thank you to everyone in the community for your interest and support to get this project to the build stage at last. This will be a tremendous asset to our community, which will provide the jobs, amenities and car parking spaces we need into the future.

School updates

Schools across the length and breadth of the Ferny Grove Electorate have received classroom upgrades and building completions with many of the maintenance backlogs completed over the Christmas holidays – just in time for the start of the new school year.

With 2020 now behind us, most students and parents will be well-versed with the quick actions school administrations must take to deal with the changing environment COVID-19 has presented us with. Make sure you sign up to updates from your children’s schools as each school has different capacities and numbers and must take all factors into consideration when determining policies regarding conduct on the school grounds.

I wish all the best for the class of 2021!
