October to be a celebration of Queensland’s seniors
This year Queensland’s annual Seniors Week will become a month-long celebration.
With grants of up to $1000 available, we’re gearing up for events and activities with the theme of Social Connections. If our COVID experience has taught us anything, it is the value of connecting with others and the need to constantly build community and empathy.
The celebrations will begin on 1 October, the United Nations International Day of Older Persons and end on 31 October, Grandparents Day. Applications for grants will close on 31 May 2021.

Review of the Animal Care and Protection Act 2001
On Easter Sunday this year I was pleased to launch the Review of the Animal Care and Protection Act 2001. I am passionate about the prevention of cruelty to animals and this review is an important opportunity to shape the future of the care and protection of animals in Queensland.
Feedback is being sort by members of the public on issues such as:
• Mandatory reporting by veterinary professionals of animal welfare concerns;
• Prohibited events, regulated surgical procedures and offence exemptions;
• The use of baits and traps;
• Restraining dogs in open utility vehicles and trucks;
• The use of animals in science;
• Inspector powers and arrangements for externally appointed inspectors;
• The management of animals seized during animal welfare investigations; and
• Penalties for animal cruelty.

Local entrepreneurs inspiring the next generation
Local entrepreneurs Will and Denise Davy have come up with a fantastic idea to produce flat-pack kits for kids to build dynamic creations. KinetiKits are fun and engaging platforms designed to inspire kids to explore S.T.E.A.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, & Maths).
It was fascinating to catch up with Will and Denise and have them introduce me to their revolutionary designs. I even bought one for my grandkids! Visit www.kinetikits.com.au to have a look at what this amazing local couple are doing.
