Ferny Grove Centre of Excellence nears completion
The $19.9 million Centre of Excellence at Ferny Grove State High School will be completed this year on time and on budget.
Announced in June 2018 as part of the Palaszczuk Government’s 2020 Ready program the centre will be home to 22 new classrooms, four science labs and a specialist STEM studio and will be open to students on the first day of term one next year.
2020 will also see the construction of a $12 million whole-of-school hall/performing arts centre at the school which will contain a new state-of-the-art AV room, box office and performance rooms.
Mitchie High refurbishment begins in 2020
It has been over 70 years since Mitchelton State High School opened its doors to students. Today the school is in need of a little TLC.
At the 2017 election I gave a commitment that Mitchie High would receive a $10 million injection of much-needed funding to improve its facilities.
I can now report I am delivering on that commitment and that the school’s plan for a new technology hub and resource centre have been approved by the Education Department. Construction will begin in first term next year and will provide new spaces for IT and design classes.
The hall and canteen will also undergo major refits and the double basketball court will be fully covered providing more shade space for school activities and sporting meets.
Since taking office in February 2015 the Palaszczuk Government has added 2,000 new classrooms and delivered 13 new schools in the state with a another eight more in 2020 and a further five to open in 2021.
Investing in education is the cornerstone to the future of Queensland and I am making sure that our community receives its fair share.
