Open 7 days a week, 7am till 1pm, serving Merlo Coffee, homemade sweets and savory, toasties and wraps, smoothies and milkshakes—this is Capsule Cafe.
Now joined onto TerryWhite Chemmart Arana Hills, Capsule Cafe is a family owned and operated business stemming from the chemist. Rod Garozzo has run TerryWhite since June 1980, following in the footsteps of his father Rill Garozzo, who opened Mitchelton Pharmacy in 1956. In 2018, Karen Brown joined Rod in partnership, and now her mother Lorelle comes in every Wednesday to bake her famous Lorelle’s HomeBakes.
Karen, reminiscing on Lorelle’s involvement in the business, says, ‘Mum has always been an amazing home cook—it brings her so much joy. She loves being in the cafe baking and she loves hearing great feedback from customers too. Her cheesecakes are definitely a family and customer favourite.’
Lorelle, similarly, shared, ‘I feel like it started with the beginning of covid last year, with my “Nanny Eats” being delivered to Karen‘s doorstep. Karen suggested that instead of baking for the family, I should bake for the cafe. We established quite quickly that customers loved home baked goods—which is a great point of difference for our cafe. The more decadent the better!’
It is quite a uniquity in our community to have a cafe adjoining a pharmacy, but it has definitely become an obsession for our customers. According to Karen, they love the ability to grab a coffee when they collect their script in the morning on the way to work, and both mums and local groups enjoy catching up for morning tea. With dine-in and takeaway options, Capsule Cafe always hits the right spot.
