The Lions lose one of their own

From the Golden Valley Keperra Lions Club

Wendy Robson

In normal times I would not use this column to advise our readers of the passing of one of our members. However I am compelled to as Wendy was one of our gentle souls with a heart full of what Lions Members are all about.

Last week, our Golden Valley Keperra Lions Club lost a young 70-year-old member to cancer after a short illness.

Wendy was a Lion for some 32 years and will be greatly missed. Living in the Hills community with husband Darryl Robson, also a Lion, Wendy was a tireless worker and champion of the Lions’ global causes, which included; Diabetes, Hunger, Childhood Cancer, Vision and the Environment.

Everyone who met Wendy would easily like her. She was mildly mannered, with a caring smile, calm demeanor and excellent sense of humour. However, she was a leader in the Lions, had a determination and relentlessness to ensure the projects and causes that Lions supports were held in the front of members minds.

One of Wendy’s annual projects that she organised locally was the selling of daffodils in our local shopping centres –  ‘Daffodil Day’ supporting the Cancer Council. This year Daffodil Day is Friday 28th August. Our club will ensure Wendy’s work here continues.

Lions supports many local community service needs but also raises funds to support medical research. Our foundation ‘Lions Medical Research Foundation’ supports new researchers for three years, allowing them to get their research projects up and running. The next breakthrough may just be around the corner with researchers at UQ working on a Covid-19 vaccine.

Wendy’s caring heart, desire to help those in need, and willingness to volunteer her time to others is testament to her great legacy.

We need more Wendy’s in our life, our world and our community. She will be sadly missed by Darryl, her family, her friends and her Lions family. Wendy made a difference in our world, – quietly and confidently-without seeking recognition or reward. She was a great Lion.
