Time to celebrate at Arana Netball

Life members, Jenna Hodgkiss, Brianna Streeter and Gemma Streeter

September 7th saw the final round of netball of 2019, Grand Finals. Arana was represented by four teams on Grand Final day, Arana 4, Arana 5, Arana 7 and Arana 9. Our girls played hard and our sidelines were alive with positive cheer, two of our teams came away wins to be proud of – Arana 4 and Arana 9, Grand Final Winners for 2019.

Arana Netball Club wasted no time in celebrating our season with our players, members and families. We gathered eagerly at the Gaythorne Bowls club on September 14th, proudly displaying our red, white and black.  The stories of the season flowed freely, new friendships celebrated, players and members acknowledged for their contribution to their teams and to their club. It was a night filled with pride, panther pride.

The Hills Echo award winner for the “Positive or Pointless” award, Nicola Rzepka

From our youngest player at seven years old, through to our inaugural Masters Team, each player bought their own to their team. The room was filled with cheers all night for our players and members.

We would like to especially acknowledge our Hills Echo award winner for 2019, a player who has demonstrated the Positive or its Pointless values and has been recognised for their contribution to Arana Netball Club during 2019 – Nicola Rzepka. Nicola played in Arana 5 and has been umpiring for a couple of years. This year Nicola really stepped up in regards to umpiring, tackling higher divisions including opens divisions.  Through her umpiring and playing Nicola constantly displayed the ‘Positive or its Pointless’ values, a challenging role sometimes when umpiring and having to control the game but also managing the behaviour of players and spectators.  Nicola volunteered to fill gaps in the umpiring roster at short notice even when it meant being out of her comfort zone.  She also had insight to ask for assistance and mentoring when she felt out of her depth. This is a mature attribute at her age. Congratulations Nicola!

Finally, we would like to thank our life members, Jenna Hodgkiss, Brianna Streeter and Gemma Streeter for everything you do for Arana Netball Club along with players, umpires, coaches, committee members, mums, daughters, sisters but most of all our friends!  Thank you for your devotion in ensuring our players enjoy a positive, supportive netball season.

We look forward to welcoming players interested in playing in the 2020 season to our FREE netball clinic run Monday evenings, October 14th – November 11th.  Visit our Facebook page for more information or contact arananetballregistrar@gmail.com.  Registrations essential.
