Christmas has come early to John Scott Park in Samford with $610,000 in funding approved in for a refresh and new infrastructure in the New Year.

The park upgrades include; construction of a half basketball court, picnic settings, drinking fountains, all new soft fall surfacing and two new shade sails over some new play elements.

Among the improvements will also be a new $240,000 amenities block in order to increase the number of cubicles and provide an accessibility compliant toilet. This amenities building has been designed to reduce maintenance, vandalism and cleaning costs.

There is also a separate project underway to install smart technology within the amenities block . This will provide the  capacity for remote opening and closing of the facility as well as the ability to report on water usage and potential damage to the block.

Works will commence in February and the amenities work will take approximately 15 weeks to complete. The playground and half basketball court is set to be completed by late July 2020, weather permitting. The playground will be closed during this period for safety reasons and some car parking space may be impacted to allow access.
