I must be getting old; it’s December again and I haven’t done my Christmas shopping. Aaah! It happened last year, as well as and the year before, so I‘d better get my skates on!
Christmas is known as the season of joy, hope and peace. However, for many people, Christmas can be bitter/sweet. The effects of financial stress, expectations from children, family, friends and thinking of loved ones not able to come home for Christmas can take their toll.
So, this December, I have a plan to change my mindset in order to improve the way I look at the world, and be a more positive person. I’m not going to call it the ‘Twelve Days of Christmas,’ but ‘The Twelve Days of Gratitude.’
Gratitude is one of the most underestimated of the human emotions. It’s a feeling of happiness that comes from appreciation.
So here’s our challenge for you… For the next twelve days in the run up to Christmas (or longer if you’re game):
1. Take a photo of something you are grateful for and write
a short comment.
2. Post that photo on your family’s WhatsApp, Messenger,
Facebook or Instagram.
3. Think about that photo of gratefulness throughout the day.
Lions Club members are grateful for what they have and grateful for their friends and families. They have plenty of love to give back to their communities to complete the circle of gratefulness.
This medicinal emotion of gratefulness elevates our mood and fills us with joy, hope and peace – Christmas. As 71 year old author, Melody Beattie, pens:
‘Gratitude makes sense of your past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.’
Let’s give gratefulness a go and see how this powerful emotion can change your life and the lives of others.
Volunteers are always needed to keep The Lions programs going. If you have some time to give back to your community, please contact me, Paul Ryan, at The GVK Lions email: firstname.lastname@example.org or call 0409 688 675.
