With the support of Queensland Health Family Drug Support’s (FDS)local support group in Mitchelton has been available since January this year. Regular attendees of the group have reported it has assisted them to feel heard and develop positive coping skills and strategies. Local worker to the area, Krystal Scott says, “It is positive to see families that otherwise would have had to travel significant distances to obtain support, regularly attending and gaining the benefit of connecting with people on a similar journey and sharing in the collective wisdom of the group.”
“Numbers of attendance at the group have varied, but there is no doubt that there is benefit to those that do attend. I hope to see more promotion of the group throughout the local area and an increase in attendance in order to best support the community,” says worker Krystal Scott.
