J.K Rowling, international best-selling author, is about to release her next children’s book, The Ickabog. Rowling had never intended to release The Ickabog, but COVID-19 struck, and she decided to release her book chapter by chapter online for a limited time so that children could read it whilst in lockdown. The Ickabog is due to be released on November 10th.

J.K Rowling decided to host a competition whereby the winners would have their illustrations published in the book. More than 18 000 children aged 7-12 from around the world entered the competition. Sofia B., a grade six student from St William’s School Grovely, was skilled enough to be one of the thirty-four winners. She was blessed with the

talent of drawing and put this to good use. Sofia said, “I entered the competition because J.K Rowling is an inspiration to my artistic creativity.”

Sofia spent hours planning and perfecting every detail in her two illustrations that she submitted. She waited patiently for the judges to decide. Soon, she was shortlisted for her drawing of Lady Eslanda (one of the main characters) and had to deliver her illustration to the judges by mail for further examination. Sofia was filled with excitement when she received an email notifying her that she had been chosen as one of the winners. Her prize included an autographed copy of The Ickabog. The exhilarating news spread to her family, friends and school. Sofia said, “I couldn’t believe that out of more than 18 000 entries, I was one of the thirty-four winners. I want to continue drawing and see where it can take me in the future.”
