Bringing Hope and Support: Homeless Connect Event in Brisbane

In a world where the bustling streets often hide the quiet struggles of many, initiatives like Homeless Connect stand as beacons of hope and support.

Homeless Connect, a one-day event hosted by the Brisbane City Council, extends a helping hand to individuals experiencing homelessness or those at risk of it. Since its inception, this remarkable project has touched the lives of more than 21,480 people.

At the heart of Homeless Connect lies a profound sense of community and compassion with the event thriving on the generosity of donations from schools, businesses, and residents across Brisbane.

Homeless Connect provides essential services, all completely free of charge. From access to medical and allied health care professionals, including doctors, dentists, optometrists, podiatrists, audiologists, and massage therapists, to vital support for housing, employment, and community services, the event leaves no stone unturned in addressing the multifaceted needs of its attendees.

One of the most transformative aspects of the event is the opportunity for personal grooming and care. Barbers and hairdressers offer haircuts, while attendees receive personal grooming items like toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, and deodorant. Such seemingly simple gestures can have a profound impact, restoring dignity and self-esteem to those who need it most.

In addition to essential services, Homeless Connect ensures that basic necessities are met. Clothing, including shoes, non-perishable food items, and even immunization services delivered by Council’s own immunisation team, are all available to attendees. These provisions not only address immediate needs but also pave the way for a more secure and stable future.

However, Homeless Connect is more than just a service fair—it’s a celebration of resilience and community spirit. Attendees are treated to breakfast, lunch, and live entertainment, fostering an atmosphere of warmth and camaraderie. It’s a reminder that amidst hardship, there is still room for joy and connection.

The next event will be held on Thursday 16 May 2024 at Brisbane Showgrounds, Bowen Hills (corner of Alexandria Street and Gregory Terrace). You can register your interest to volunteer by visiting the Volunteering Queensland website.
